Oil on Canvas
48" x 68"
Inspired by a beautiful person whose uniqueness stirred a desire to, at first, capture a figure and an expression. Every person always has a true essence and beauty that is “captured in a daydream”. Inspired from a simplistic single moment in time, Augusta the Great was painted through the lens of my imagination. The dramatic colors are used to evoke the emotions felt at the time of creating. The state of mind commences a journey into this particular fantasy world where she is fabulous and prominent. She is worthy to command a beast that cannot be commanded. This calls to some future day, where the notion of the Lion laying with the Lamb is just an extension of the beautiful world we live in. No longer imagined, but reality. Life has plenty of laws, but art allows us to break them.

A Self-portrait. This painting depicts great loss, defeat, and the false hope of clinging to that which is temporary. This woman is on her knees still needlessly grasping for something that was once precious to her. Her attention fixed to the things of this earth. She is heavy-laden with intricate and confining garments. A Christmas star fixed on the horizon acts as a beacon. It draws attention skyward. It causes a stirring inside of her heart that will ultimately be the catalyst for change. A choice offered to all who are burdened and weary.

A continuation from The Stirring, where a decision that will forever change her has been made. Receiving the Light that will illuminate a path with the clearest of visions. To receive the Light in one hand means to let go of earthly things with the other. The beautiful cleansing that occurs, quite literally casts off the old clothing to reveal what has been made new and perfect. This is a sanctification of glorious magnitude. One that only the Creator himself can offer. She emerges fully atoned, having been ransomed.

A portrayal where the spiritual and earthly realms meet. The setting is post-transfiguration where peace and contentment now fill her. She is holding onto the Light that now belongs to her, as it guides as a heavenly compass. A “sure and steady anchor” amidst the storm portrayed in The Stirring. It gives direction on where she can continually fix her eyes, where to place her hope, and where life ends and eternity begins. The horse has been restored to glorious abundant life, and he waits along side her as a symbol of her future eternal state. The sun and the star are together now representing light, hope and a new day.

Moonlight Run is a derivative from seeing a beautiful animal while also being caught in a moment of reverie. Where strength, intelligence and beauty come together to form a single captured moment. This painting was created out of a flash that could easily have come and gone. This animal is moving stealthily through the night and typically unseen by human eyes. However, a glimpse of a wonderfully illuminated set of gilded antlers reveals his splendor. They are stunning and beautiful. The pain required for him to grow these antlers year-in-and year out warrants emphasis, and calls us to look closer.

Inspired by the decision made to focus my expression on the things that were true to my creative nature. This is a moment which the falcon and all its attributes came into view. The falcon is a symbol of strength, courage, victory and most notably vision. This portrait was my offering not only to young girls and women, but to anyone who takes seriously the call of their inspiration. The great bird seems to be flying on its own, yet it is very much a part of her physical being. There seems to be limitless rules of entanglement within the imagination, color, science and nature. A long and deep relationship with paint and mediums allows these entanglements to take form in a way that it can be seen in my own imagination.

This is an occurrence that could be deemed “frequent” in my own imagination ever since childhood. In many ways, this is the essence of what flows through my creative view on any given day and moment. It’s very true both to the inner creative life I live, and a state of being pleasantly lost in thoughts and daydreams. It often times takes considerable effort to break away from this state of dreaming, as we, of course, need to function in the world. As a created being and creative creature, my spirit and imagination coexist. In this spirit, Reverie encompasses the epitome of imagination because it’s a global symbol of something you cannot capture. Yet, here it is. So why on earth would we ever stop dreaming?

A statuette of classic antiquity, Bucephalus was the horse of Alexander the Great. Legend has it, Bucephalus was a wild untamed stallion that no one could ride. Alexander as a young child, approached the mighty and untamed animal and rode him. This is the horse that Alexander rode into battle as he conquered most of the known world. This legend is also referenced in the movie “The Black Stallion”, in which the father gives the totem to his son and tells the him the story of Bucephalus. Forebodingly, the boy is about to be shipwrecked on an island with a wild a stallion. Against all odds, the statuette survived with the boy in his pocket and it served as a symbol of strength, fortitude, belief and overcoming impossible odds.
